Almost two weeks ago now, the Boodle and I drove down to Oneonta to visit the J.L. Popp, Jr. Butterfly Conservatory. It was part of our date day.
I thought that bringing a camera would be a good thing, and it was (though not because I got very many good quality photos out of the trip). Following an excited (though often shy) seven year-old through paths of trees and butterflies while trying to frame up a close-up shot a skittish animal are a bit mutually exclusive projects. Add to that the Conservatory’s restriction on use of flash, even in some of the canopied areas, and taking crisp images didn’t happen often.
As one might expect, I elected to follow the boy.
What follows are not good photos, but they, hopefully, capture some of the magic of the conservatory and our experience there. As a bonus that day the Raptor Project was performing one of its shows that day, and we enjoyed meeting some fine, feathered friends.

They all look so happy ,I miss going to the zoo.

Technically this is a bit less than a zoo, but yeah… I love seeing people and animals being able to intermingle with each other somewhat happily.
