Proud Host — a WIPpet/ROW80

Fifteen words for the day plus one for the month…  sort and sweet:

Hirisii was too cock-sure and proud to be seen as anything less than the ideal host.

He couldn’t be drinking those lattes, could he? I mean, look at that smile…

Hugs and lattes to K.L.Schwengel the WIPpet goddess.  If you want to read other ‘pets, head over to our linky to visit the whole crew.  (Truth be told, I’m not sure the WIPpet mistress likes lattes…  either that or the monkeys keep drinking them on her when I send them over.)

ROW80 check-in

Some progress this week.  Here’s my goals with notes:

  • write every day; at the minimum, do 5 sentences not yet today but everyday so far; now I just need to concentrate more on story writing
  • finish a complete (rough) draft of Courting the Swan Song I’ve reread pieces I’ve written but I’m not getting far in this
  • make twice weekly blog posts (WIPpet Wednesdays and Some Thing 4 Sundays) on a consistent schedule not as consistent as I would like; the posts are there, but they could be on schedule
  • maintain active sponsor participation some…  I still need to get that sponsor post written.  I’ve made notes and a few first drafts, but…
  • energize myself with more physical activity some daily walks and work with weights added each day
  • reclaim my writing space some progress, most of it involved in not letting more thing pile on my desk
  • go through some piece of my electronic home (desktop, laptop, server space, Dropbox, etc.) weekly no progress here, sadly
  • Hi!

    Hi! (photo cred: Dan Mabee)

laugh more, hug my family more, share myself with friends more…  a world of more, because I’m tired of Living in the Depression* lot and LOTS of progress on this front (actually, my husband has been making a point of taking pictures of me smiling and laughing…  for someone who has always been embarrassed by her laughter and appearance, it’s been a renewing experience, one I think everyone should try)

And that’s it for today.  See you Sunday!

  1. I find my laugh embarrassing, too…but, no one else seems to mind & it sure makes me feel better to laugh, so what the hey? I can see a few things on your list that I really should add to my goals (i.e. going through digital stuff.) Anyway, thought I’d pop by from #Row80 to cheer you on. 🙂

    • I never disliked my laugh as a kid, but my grandmother used to yell at me something fierce for the way it sounded. And of course school and other kids… It’s no wonder that we (as people in general) are so hard on ourselves after a lot of our public school experiences; I keep reading posts by people who hated those days. 😦

Thanks for stopping in, Tui. Best wishes on that Texas guide. Maybe we can find some writers in every state of the union to make a series….

  2. Progress on many fronts, *yay*. I’m finding posting check-ins is just not happening for me, as the week flashes by like some steampunk zeppelin. Ah well, it’s early days yet.

    • Maybe you could just make a boilerplate checklist and just say “yes”, “some”. “not at all” with a quick paragraph at the end? Something to just kickstart the habit?

“flashes by like a steampunk zeppelin”… actually, I imagine your weeks have been flying by a lot faster than that…. 😉

  3. Good for your hubby! 🙂 Hang in there!

I like this line. 🙂 Short and sweet, as you said, but also telling.

    • My hubby is the greatest… (well, for me, at least… I’m not qualified to comment on other people’s hubbies)

I thought so too. Alanii doesn’t like his cousin all that much as you can guess.

  4. On the WIPpet front – I love it when something other than inherent goodness motivates a character to behave… On the life front – your husband sounds lovely.

Wishing you a week brimming with family, hugs, smiles and laughter!

    • I think we all do things out of more than just inherent goodness, so yeah, it’s best when our characters are the same.

And yes, he definitely is. May your week also be filled with that much joy, Raewyn. And dish soap… Still don’t quite get the dish soap and trampoline thing but it sounds interesting.

  5. Nice tiny WIPpet. 😉 I was always more comfortable on the back side of a camera than in front of it. Still am.

    • There’s a reason I took most of the pictures before my husband’s job gave him an iPhone. And if he wasn’t so sneaky with the thing…. 😉

I felt it was about time for me to stop giving weekly essays in the WIPpet. Maybe I’ll go for 22 letters next week….

  6. Definitely short and sweet but a very telling 15 words.

That’s a lot of goals – best of luck with them. 🙂

    • I’ve been watching how some of the shorter WIPpets tend to be also some of the most piercing ones. I thought I would try it. 😀

Thanks, Kate. It doesn’t seem like that much daily, but when I realize I’m behind on something… well, yeah, then it feels like a lot.

  7. BTW, love the monkey picture. 🙂 He’s so…sweet…and innocent.

  8. Not done too badly there girl – and like your pics. Not something i can do – have never done pics – even as a child! Well done you – take care:)

    • Oh, I don’t do pictures either, Alberta. At least I didn’t… I decided around Christmas that I wasn’t going to “hide” anymore. I’m who I am, and… well, you know.

Though I certainly get your perspective too.

      As for the progress… It’s … umm, progress. 😀

  9. Hey, sounds like the progress on that last goal is particularly important, so *YAY*!

Hang in there, lady, and do whatever you have to do to make yourself whole. *hugs*

  10. Hi, yourself! I love your smile, your laugh….your YOU!

Now that I have a new printer/scanner the kids haven’t claimed, and the two photo boxes of pictures excavated from the computer desk and in the same room as that scanner…I KNOW I have some shots of you smiling….old ones, new ones, ones that might mortify us both (in eighth grade, at Class Day, holding up Star Trek books, with my sister looking at us in that way…you know.)

I’ll send along what I find as I find it. I’ve been learning to get more comfortable in front of the camera, too. Just tonight, Lise asked if she could take my picture. I’m not feeling great, and at first I said no – but then I thought, “What if there’s never another chance, and I denied her?”

She has a new picture of me.

I loved the WIPpet. It felt like Alanii, and reminded me of some people I know. Short and effective.

You seem to be doing all right with your goals…the early weeks, for me, are all about finding the flow and riding it. Maybe you’re not getting to everything in the way you wanted, but I feel groundwork being laid. =)

    Love you, Sys.

    • I get what you mean about not refusing Lise a picture. I can’t deny the Boodle his pictures either (or the Punkin… and he takes a lot more pictures).

I’m still finding the flow. It got dammed up for a bit, but I think it’s better now.

  11. Your snippet says a lot in one sentence. Gets across quite a bit of the personality. And good job on your goals. 🙂

  12. I love the goal about laughing more and the photos. I have a few things from school or what people have said that have stayed with Me. Have you thought about printing out all those photos and of happy moments with a moments wall ? I was thinking of doing one. X

    • A moments wall? Ooh! That could be a good idea. I could use a corkboard (keep meaning to put one up)… Hmm.

      Thanks for the idea, Laura.
