(Find a complete set on the WeWriWa page as well as links to pages of all the authors involved. Check it out.)

Ten sentences today from my JatWW fanfiction, the Was Long Variation. Kieri has just woken after collapsing in a duel-gone-wrong:

The princess smiled as she wrung out a washcloth and laid it, chill and wet, across his forehead. “You made it back.” Before he could fully think the question that began to form in his mind, she continued. “Your talent went rogue, and you drained yourself trying to save Mother. I wasn’t sure I could break the connection between you both.” Lyarr poured a small packet of powder into a glass of water and stirred it quickly. Setting the glass on the night stand, she nodded to him. “Drink this as soon as you can; it’s an electrolyte solution.” After he’d managed a cockeyed glance at her, she nodded. “You are severely dehydrated.”

Thanks for visiting.  For further examples of my writing, please stop by for WIPpet Wednesday where I will share another excerpt from the Was Long Variation. For the month of June, I have switched to the WLV for all my bloghop snippets as I dive full-steam in the ♥Just Write♥ madness that are JuNoWriMo and Ready. Set WRITE! challenges.   Courting the Swan Song excerpts will resume in July.

    • Thanks Aurora. I think he is too… maybe. He’d passed out with the surety and comfort that he was going to die saving the life of someone he loved.

  6. Very fluid writing, Eden. And it’s quite easy to visualize what’s going on. He’s lucky the princess knows what to do. 🙂 Nicely done!

    • Promise you won’t laugh when I tell you that it was a cheesy kids cartoon I watched in the 80s while getting ready for school? Glad you enjoyed the scene (which actually had nothing to do with the cartoon just evolved somewhat from it).

  8. Great scene. The princess is taking good care of him, I see love coming on. Beautiful writing.

    • *smiles* There is definitely love there, but no romance. She’ll take care of him because that’s who she is, and she loves helping people.

  9. Eden,
I like this entry for so many reasons. Your prose is tight, illuminating, and filled with subtext. Lyarr obviously cares for Kieri, even if it just starts out as her duty to him as a warrior. I like the way you showed his emotions – he’s obviously down for the count after the way he fought. She seems like a caregiver, concerned for his health first. Great snippet! You Go, Girl!

  10. Hooray for the time to breathe. I hope your celebration was lovely! It’s good that you were able to realize that your goals didn’t match your current life circumstances. Same thing happened to me this week, but I wouldn’t trade the time with dear friends for more writing time. I’ll adjust! =)
