Mornin’ All!
Welcome to my long-intended return to the Weekend Writing Warriors. Back when I stopped participating in this bloghop it was because I realized I couldn’t participate as fully as I wanted. Silly me. I loved this group (even bought some books because of it and have eventually joined the RWA because of the works I read here. So I will be returning, posting an installment, only twice a month now instead of trying to manage every week.
What is WeWriWa? It’s a bloghop where authors post a small snippet of a piece of one of their stories. There’s a bit more to it than that, but if you want the quick and dirty so you can jump on in, the rules are simple enough:
- Add your name and genre(s) to the most recent post on the WeWriWa site
- Post a link to the WeWriWa site on your blog/Sunday post
- Keep your excerpt 10 sentences or less (8-10, no more!)
- Visit other WeWriWa authors and experience their work
(Find a complete set on the WeWriWa page as well as links to pages of all the authors involved. Check it out.)
Today’s snippet is a new beginning of sorts. In many ways… For today, I am offering 10 sentences from the new opening for the Swan Song Series: Courting, a fantasy romance I’m preparing for entry to the Golden Heart Awards. I wouldn’t be doing it if you all hadn’t inspired my interest in the romance genre.
“This better not take long—oh!” The woman stood in the larder entry, her full skirts and elaborate coif nearly blocking all the light coming down the staircase “Disgusting!”
Wrist-deep in intestines and mince, Visse closed her eyes. Where had the woman been? Here she’d been stuffing puddings for the past demi alone, and now that she was nearly done, Her Glory had finally deigned to arrive, dressed for a party as opposed to pantry duty.
“Preparing Lady Kesselan’s special sweet sausage for the feast tomorrow. Your portion is over there.”
Visse watched as Kiriina stood, staring at the stool Visse had directed her to, eyes blinking madly. “I didn’t come to—.”
Thank you for reading; I hope you enjoyed the snippet. If writing-related challenges and projects are your thing, check out the ROW80 for how to write and live and WIPpet Wednesday for more snippets and characters to love.
‘Her Glory had finally deigned to arrive…’ Ha! Doesn’t sound like Visse is too impressed with Kiriina. Great snippet. 😀

Yeah… she wouldn’t be too upset to knock Kiriina’s ego down a notch or two.

Kiriina thinks… well, she knows things aren’t always as pleasant as she would like, but she can’t help herself from trying to get Visse’s goat

She might not have come to help, but I hope she does after leaving Visse to do it all on her own.

To be fair, she had a reason for being late. Though… she dressed the way she did because she hoped to get out of it.

We learned a lot about both of these characters. Well done.

Well, to be fair, this time, Kiriina did have a reason for not coming on time… and it wasn’t the offal.
