A few things lately made me wonder if I wasn’t doing these WIPpets a bit wrong. The first was a post fellow ROWer Tonya Cannariato linked to in one of her recent check-ins (Tonya’s check-ins are awesome… she reads and posts cool links every week) about how we don’t really retain media we watch or read. The other came to me when I was reading through some of the posts my fellow Weekend Writing Warriors have made… where they post both their last week’s post and the new one (most, though not all, WeWriWas post consecutive snippets of their works) so that their readers can follow the action easier.
Before I go off an totally change formats here, I’d like your input. Would it help you all, if I added the last entry into the post before I posted the new snippet? Obviously I would only do this on weeks I was serializing the story…. but would it help in those cases?
Today I am still serializing that bit of story I’ve been playing with where ‘Listii is having nightmares and seeing someone who just shouldn’t be there. I have seven sentences for the day. Seven raw sentences… just edited for readability.
He looked up now. None of his visions had spoken to him in Visse’s voice before. And it didn’t matter how many years may have passed—he wasn’t going to mistake her voice.
The vision faded. Instead of his sister’s dark eyes, this girl’s were a soft pale grey almost rheumy. He realized he was scowling at her and the water was just that as a tear slid along the side of her stub nose,
“Yes Captain?” she asked after a surreptitious sniffle.
I hope to hear your opinions, both on the snippet and on my idea. For those of you who have never participated in this bloghop, why not head over to the WIPpet linky and visit some our other awesome members. Thank you, Emily, for being such a gracious host.
