It’s a bloghop!

Good morning, and welcome to my tenth Weekend Writing Warriors installment. The rules are simple enough:

  • Add your name and genre(s) to the most recent post on the WeWriWa site
  • Post a link to the WeWriWa site on your blog/Sunday post
  • Keep your excerpt 10 sentences or less (8-10, no more!)
  • Visit other WeWriWa authors and experience their work

(Find a complete set on the WeWriWa page as well as links to pages of all the authors involved. Check it out.)

At last, I return to Courting The Swan Song for WeWriWa excerpts.  I hope you didn’t mind indulging my fondness for fanfiction last month.  Did any of you notice that Alanii was mentioned in one of them?  I put all of my characters through their paces in the Was Long Variation before I let them completely free in their own world.  Or at least, I try to; my characters usually have other ideas.

This excerpt follows about half a page after my last CTSS excerpt, It Suits Me Poorly:

Alanii stopped himself short. ‘Ssell? Vissellii Marae? This genteel lady could not be his friend’s snippy, mud-haired, spear-pole of a sister. He stared at the young woman who was now offering Val an embrace and a peck on the cheek. She turned next to offer her uncle the same.

He found his voice and his nerve. After the young woman had been freed by the Hastor Major, Alanii managed to be right there next to take her hand. “Lady Vissellii, it’s been a long time. How are you today?”

Thanks for stopping by!

Upcoming:

  • WIPpet Wednesday brings most writerly bloghoppy happiness.  Please come by to enjoy another sample from the Was Long Variation there.
  • For those who are looking for more of my fiction, you can find it here.

A History of War

This was actually last week’s WeWriWa post, but since I forgot to add the link to the linky… I’m reposting, mostly because I’m running behind on a lot of online stuff due to the holidays and teaching paperwork. 😦

Thanks for your patience. Hope you all had a great couple of weeks.

Good morning, and welcome to my ninth installment for the Weekend Writing Warriors. The rules are fairly simple:

  • Add your name and genre(s) to the most recent post on the WeWriWa site
  • Post a link to the WeWriWa site on your blog/Sunday post
  • Keep your excerpt 10 sentences or less (8-10, no more!)
  • Visit other WeWriWa authors and experience their work

(Find a complete set on the WeWriWa page as well as links to pages of all the authors involved. Check it out.)

Today, despite plans to move on to other works, I once again offer an except from my JatWW fanfiction, the Was Long Variation, nine sentences for the ninth post, now from the palace armory:

“She said they had a history of war,” his friend muttered. The man paused to analyze a particularly vicious-looking set of swords with hook-like serrations along the upper side of the curved blades. His expression suggested an uneasy familiarity with the weapons.

“What?”

Herc glanced at Nytramli who was at the moment surveying a rack of swords with a critical eye. He turned back to Jayce and shrugged. “It’s hard to see these people and see warriors. I should know better since we’ve done our best to turn Flora into one, but it doesn’t mean it seems real. Or right.”

Thank you for visit and reading.  If you would like more excerpts of my work please come back for WIPpet Wednesday.  I’m hoping to return to Courting the Swan Song for posts, but..  if you enjoyed your foray with me into my world of fanfiction, I could be persuaded to stay here a bit longer.

Your vote counts, folks.  I love spending time with my characters in whatever story I am writing.

So Deliberate

Today’s excerpt from the Was Long Variation is slightly NSFW…  perhaps a PG13 rating.  As I intend to return to Courting the Swan Song in the next week for my WeWriWa posts, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to end on a bit of a bang.  😀

Salty, sweet, tender… He kissed her tears; he murmured assurances he didn’t believe. He needed to hear them. Her heart pounded so–he felt her blood move beneath her skin. Or perhaps it was his. He and She merged, writhed, as they drew together into a nest of sheets torn from the bed. Her fingertips lingered in their journey along his neck and shoulders; his danced through the laces of her bedgown. Her breath was hot, her voice gruff and harsh. He felt her quiver where they touched, knew before he made a move whether it would please her, knew what pressure to use, when to let go… And so strong, so deliberate were her own caresses, he knew she sensed the same from him.

Thank you for reading; I hope you enjoyed this snippet from the Was Long Variation for a time.  Coming up for WIPpet Wednesday, please enjoy an excerpt sample from Courting the Swan Song.
